I came home straight after church today because I had an awful migraine Friday and Saturday and didn't want to push it today.
When I got home, I relaxed on the couch with a book and ate some lunch. I was only home for about 20 minutes when my phone rang. It was my friend Emily. She's been my cherished friend since we were 5 years old, and our phone conversations are never short. Excited to have some company (and some extra incentive to clean house), I turned on my blue-tooth and settled in for a good chat while washing dishes. We talked about her new kitten, and my weekend migraine, and my sister's upcoming 18th birthday. At one point during our conversation, I heard a knock on the door. "Hold on a minute, Em," I said as I walked toward our entry, "Someone's at the door."
When I opened the door, I nearly fell over. Emily and her sister Julia were standing on my porch with a bouquet of flowers!!!
I haven't seen Em since before Christmas, and I wasn't expecting to see her again until the end of this month when we stay at her house the weekend of my cousin's wedding. It was such a wonderful surprise!
She and Julia had been in the area looking at a college campus, so they decided to stop by and surprise me. Boy was I!
It was so wonderful to get to sit on the couch and enjoy their company for nearly three hours. They are such dear friends, and getting to see them so unexpectedly was such a bright spot in my week!
I'm so thankful for our nearly two decade friendship. What a blessing to grow up with such wonderful friends!
